Senior Access Consultant – Philip Chun Accessibility | Sydney
Shape the Built Environment. Influence Design. Drive Inclusion.
At Philip Chun, we believe that accessibility is not just about compliance—it’s about design that includes everyone. As one of Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary consultancy firms specialising in compliance in the built environment, our work goes beyond the checklist. We collaborate with architects, designers, developers, and government to embed meaningful, innovative access solutions into the most iconic projects across the country.
With a strong presence in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra, and a 30+ year legacy in the industry, our consultants work at the cutting edge of building code, accessibility, and fire safety compliance across the commercial, public, education, health, residential, and infrastructure sectors.
Why This Role?
We’re looking for a Senior Access Consultant to join and lead our Sydney CBD team—someone who’s ready to elevate their impact in the built environment.
Whether you're an experienced Access Consultant ready for a leadership step, or an architect looking to pivot your career into a field where your design thinking and technical knowledge can champion inclusion, this is your opportunity to build influence, guide clients, shape policy, and mentor others.
You’ll report directly to our Access Director and collaborate with an engaged, national team. Your role will be hands-on and strategic, with the autonomy to manage your own portfolio of exciting and diverse projects—from early design consultation to post-completion assessment.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading accessibility consulting across the project lifecycle—from concept design to occupancy.
Providing strategic advice and detailed reporting to clients, backed by deep knowledge of the DDA, BCA, DSAPT and Australian Standards.
Preparing Performance Solution Reports, Performance Based Design Briefs and recommendations that balance compliance with innovation.
Attending site inspections and design meetings, providing real-time feedback to architects, project managers, and developers.
Building and nurturing client relationships—your professional reputation matters here.
Mentoring staff locally and contributing to the national Access team’s knowledge base and standards.
Participating in peer reviews and growing your own industry presence.
Contributing to business development and quoting work.
Managing your time, projects and invoicing with autonomy and confidence.
What You Bring
Minimum 5 years' experience in access consulting or a related field (architecture, occupational therapy, construction).
Accreditation (or eligibility) as an Access Consultant highly regarded.
A strong grasp of compliance and codes—but also an understanding of design thinking and how Universal Design principles add value.
Exceptional communication skills—verbal and written—with the confidence to guide and influence project teams and clients.
Passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam and report writing.
Desire to be part of a high-performing, supportive team where your ideas are valued.
What’s On Offer
A competitive salary package tailored to your experience.
Dedicated CPD support: access to industry memberships, seminars, and training.
Genuine career development in a national company that invests in its people.
Additional paid leave between Christmas and New Year.
Projects that will challenge, excite, and make a real-world difference.
Applications
If you’re ready to take your place at the table—contributing to best-practice design, compliance and inclusion across some of Australia’s most significant projects—we want to hear from you.
Please include your resume and brief cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
