Position Type: Full Time Permanent

Location: Council Chambers, 119 – 145 Spence Street, Cairns

We have a unique opportunity for a Community Development Officer – First Peoples to join our team!

What You Will Do:

As the Community Development Officer – First Peoples, you will play a vital role in supporting Council to meet its objectives relating to community wellbeing, quality of life, and resilience. You will work closely with the Team Leader Community Development to deliver Council’s First Peoples portfolio and ensure meaningful engagement and strong partnerships with First Peoples communities across the Cairns region.

This is your opportunity to influence social policy, support positive community outcomes, and be a central driver of reconciliation in our region.

What We Are Looking For:

Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or substantial relevant experience, expertise and competence sufficient to perform the duties of the role.

High level understanding of the process of reconciliation and demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of reconciliation strategies and action plans.

Extensive experience in working with First Peoples, particularly in relation to programming, policy, planning or advocacy.

High level understanding of contemporary issues affecting First Peoples, including Native Title.

Proven ability in high-level research, report writing, and the facilitation and delivery of engaging presentations.

High level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with linguistically diverse groups, navigate complex and at times competing interests, resolve conflict and facilitate consultation.
