About the role
Merri-bek City Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Graduate Accountant to join our Finance team. We are looking for someone who will enjoy learning and working across all aspects of the Finance Unit including revenue, financial accounting, and management accounting.
This position would suit someone currently undertaking tertiary studies or recent graduated. Previous experience in a high activity role with excellent interpersonal communication, email and written skills will be well regarded, alongside a strong commitment to customer service and attention to detail.
Skills and experience require to perform the role
- Working towards a tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting) or have recently completed
- Work experience in an entry level finance role is highly desirable but not essential.
- Intent to start working towards completion of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
- A strong commitment to customer service.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and word skills.
- Excellent administrative skills.
- A good level of skill with computer operating systems.
- Able to demonstrate conceptual, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Able to understand and demonstrate required skills.
- An understanding of long term unit goals and appreciation of the wider organisational goals.
