About the role
Merri-bek City Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Management Accounting Coordinator to join our Finance team. We are looking for someone to take on a key role to lead and enable the financial budgeting, planning, internal analysis and reporting functions for the financial sustainability of our diverse organisation. The Management Accounting Coordinator will oversee the finance business partnering function, ensuring it is highly valued as a strategic partner and retains an ongoing focus on quality, innovation and continuous improvement.
A key priority of this role is to add value and insight through business partnering with managers and budget owners across the business. You will deliver accurate and timely financial information, assist with preparing the 4-year budget and quarterly forecasts, and ensure branches have the necessary support and information to enable effective decision making. This role will play a key role in financial system maintenance as well as overseeing the preparation of internal and external reporting.
As the Management Accounting Coordinator, you will collaborate to develop strong partnerships and create value through insightful analysis. You will communicate confidently with both financial and non-financial individuals alike. You will support, mentor and coach the finance team to act with integrity, professionalism and a high level of competency.
Previous experience in a high activity role with excellent interpersonal communication, email and written skills will be well regarded, alongside a strong commitment to customer service and attention to detail. Experience in local government and staff management will be highly regarded.
Skills and experience require to perform the role
- Tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce (majoring in accounting)
- Completion of CPA or CA
- Demonstrated experience in development, analysis, monitoring and reporting of financial budgets, forecasts and business plans
- High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with management and executives
- An effective team player, with the ability to work cooperatively and positively in a small team dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- A strong commitment to customer service
- Experience and knowledge of statutory reporting responsibilities preferably with local government exposure
- Excellent understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards
- Ability to transfer accounting and financial knowledge to non-accounting managers and team leaders
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from internal and external customers and deal with difficult customers in a calm and professional manner
