Job Purpose
Responsible for the management, preservation, and protection of cultural heritage assets within the community, ensuring that heritage values are protected and integrated into planning, development, and community engagement initiatives. This role also oversees a multidisciplinary team and will work closely with other internal teams, government agencies, community stakeholders, and heritage professionals to uphold best practices in heritage conservation and interpretation. The role is accountable for the implementation of Heritage compliance systems and other supporting systems and processes to manage compliance against the Yamatji Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA), ensuring it satisfies all land related obligations and any service delivery expectations and supports the Traditional Owner care of country.
Key Accountabilities
Lead, mentor, develop staff, and contribute to high performance teams by promoting positive behaviours, values, inclusion, and collaboration to contribute to positive YSRC business culture.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that supports innovation and learning, via effective task allocation, performance goals, and regular performance reviews.
Manage heritage portfolio including development and implementation of team policies, procedures, frameworks, and guidelines and the oversights of portfolio project, timelines, budgets, procurement/resources, and partnerships.
Ensure management compliance of all heritage matters in accordance with state, federal, and international heritage legislations, conventions, and guidelines to improve the effectiveness of heritage assessment, identification, and protection within the Yamatji Nation ILUA area.
Manages YGSHA and YPSHA processes and all other heritage approval applications in accordance with heritage preservation laws and regulations.
Develop strong working relationships with Yamatji Nation members, the broader traditional owner community, government bodies, and heritage consultants to improve traditional owner care of country.
Engage with YSRC related entities, government, and non-government stakeholders on heritage, culture, and environmental matters to foster involvement in management and preservation activities and identify opportunities for projects and partnerships.
Conduct research and coordinate cultural record management from engagement programs to establish accurate records to support heritage assessments, interpretation, retrieval, asset management, and future works for Yamatji Nation.
Provide expert technical advice and research findings to internal and external entities and stakeholders on proposals relating to heritage assets.
Prepare, review, and manage documentation relating to the heritage portfolio, including team KPI tracking, heritage reports, permits, approvals and applications, and interpretive materials, for various audiences.
Work within and comply with all YSRC policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Work Environment
This role involves both office-based work and field visits to heritage sites and participation in fieldworks. Occasional travel and after-hours work may be required. The Heritage Manager is expected to lead by example and fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and excellence working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.
