Internal Communications Team Leader

One of our favourite team leads has stepped sideways to focus on an organisational change project through to the end of October (possibly longer). That’s where you come in.
We’re on the hunt for a strong operator who can take charge of the BAU internal communications delivery; you will keep the wheels turning, meet ongoing deadlines, and lead with energy to keep the team on track together. The role is a mix of content workflow coordination, team support, and stakeholder management working towards the delivery of a high-quality weekly newsletter and managing the digital platforms it is published to.
You won’t be setting strategy, but you will be the key operational leader that make it all happen. However, you are well supported by your senior leader who can provide all the help you need to open doors and remove roadblocks. It’s fast paced, high pressure, and at times a little chaotic (in a good way). Think: managing deliverables, proofing copy, removing blockers, and ensuring the team stay positive, calm and focused on the tasks at hand. With the full support of your leadership team, the day-to-day operational tempo of your team is all yours. They will be available to assist and guide you as you need, so while this is only a contract you are still assured the opportunity to keep your development moving forward.
The team:
- A clever and capable fulltime staff member who gets it done.
- Permanent part time casual filling in the gaps as needed
- Plus, two more roles being recruited (you’ll help shape that!)
Must-haves:
- Strong leadership and delivery mindset
- Calm energy – the team is still developing and figuring out how to keep calm under pressure (you keep it cool and positive)
- Experience managing internal communication newsletters, tight deadlines, high visibility.
- Great eye for detail (especially under pressure)
- Can coordinate content, people, and stakeholders with ease
- Comfortable using a CMS (Drupal is ideal but not essential)
- Confident with the technical tools required to run large, online allstaff meetings
The work:
- Monday + Tuesday the Newsletter dominates: It’s the internal voice of the organisation – highly visible with tight deadlines and lots of moving parts. You are responsible for delivery to the editor for final approval.
- Rest of the week? Workflow, delivery, meetings, content review, team support, culture, and the occasional internal event.
- You’ll be the “how do we get this done” person – calm in the chaos, eyes on quality, always a step ahead.
The culture:
- This is a ‘leave your ego at the door’ type of team
- Wildly collaborative, genuinely helpful, drop anything for each other kind of energy
- “What can I do to help?” is the unofficial motto
- Morale is high, humour is key, and everyone’s got each other’s backs
- Tough days happen, laugh, pitch in and keep going!
WFH:
- Two days a week on offer
Think you’re the steady hand and fun human this team needs? Let’s talk. This role’s got plenty of room to shine, and the team wants someone who can lead with empathy, roll with the occasional chaos, and make it fun on the way.
