Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Gambling Counsellor to join our team as part of the GambleAware program based in Goulburn NSW.

This program provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental counselling and support for individuals, families, and community members concerned about their own or someone else's gambling.

As a Gambling Counsellor, you will deliver specialist therapeutic interventions via face-to-face, telephone, and online methods. You will support individuals, couples, families, and groups, offering services such as gambling-specific counselling, multi-venue self-exclusion assistance, and access to tailored information and strategies to address gambling harm.

Applicants must hold a relevant degree in psychology or counselling and current membership of a relevant peak professional body or association.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide therapeutic counselling to individuals, couples, families, and groups affected by gambling harm via face-to-face, telephone, and online modalities.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised treatment plans based on clients' needs and goals.
  • Deliver services in line with the program framework, including intake, assessment, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Facilitate group support sessions to address gambling harm in the community.
  • Respond to referrals promptly and make appropriate internal and external referrals to support clients holistically.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records and data in line with funding requirements.

Requirements for Success:

  • Degree in Psychology or Counselling.
  • Current membership of a relevant peak professional body or association.
  • Proven experience in therapeutic counselling, including assessment, case planning, and the delivery of individual, couple, family, and group sessions across face-to-face, phone, and online settings.
  • A strong understanding of gambling-related harm and the challenges experienced by affected individuals and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement tailored treatment plans supporting client recovery and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Current NSW driver's license

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
