About the Role:
Curtin University is looking for an experienced Senior Human Resources Business Partner (SHRBP) to join our People & Culture team - in a full-time, permanent position.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted Business Partner, providing strategic advice to a broad cohort of academic and professional leaders, providing expert guidance on strategic initiatives and essential HR processes and functions. Your focus will include workforce planning, effective communication, employee relations, change management, and performance and culture initiatives, all aimed at fostering a thriving workplace environment.
You will work in a collaborative, open-plan office, and will work collaboratively with several other People & Culture (P&C) teams. The position offers significant autonomy in managing work deliverables and while coaching, supporting and enabling leaders across a broad range of complex generalist and ER/IR matters, change and cultural work, and strategic projects.
Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Develop HR priorities aligned with strategic goals and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with leaders on complex and strategic people management issues such as effective communication, leadership and change, performance management, workforce planning and workplace relations.
- Advise on employment agreements and policies while implementing innovative HR practices.
- Build strong relationships with University leaders to understand their HR needs and support people priorities across the Institution, in line with the University’s overarching strategic priorities.
- Represent P&C on related committees and working groups (as required).
- Collaborate on complex people management issues, providing coaching and operational support.
- Partner with specialist HR teams to deliver coordinated, client-focused services.
- Identify trends and implement proactive strategies to mitigate issues and improve workplace efficiency.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and manage key HR projects as needed.
Who we are looking for:
- Relevant postgraduate degree and extensive HR/IR experience, with proven ability to influence and coach senior leaders and drive cultural transformation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of navigating complex environments and influencing decision-making.
- Ability to anticipate future business needs, develop long-term HR plans, and measure the impact of HR initiatives on overall business performance.
- Significant expertise in:
- organisational design
- strategic workforce planning
- talent management (including succession planning)
- strong understanding of employment law and HR policies, procedures, and best practices. - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with effective time management skills to handle competing priorities autonomously or within a team.
- Comfortable and confident in delivering and facilitating presentations and workshops.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to facilitate resolution of complex HR issues.
- A collaborative mindset with a strong focus on coaching and developing leaders and teams to achieve high performance and foster an inclusive, values-driven culture.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in an HR Business Partnering position (preferably 5-10 years+)
- Sound knowledge and previous experience in the area of strategic workforce planning.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in initiating and implementing change management.
- Previous working experience in the Higher Education sector
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
