Arts Head of Workspace & Support Worker
About Us
BEST Disability Support (BEST) is an NDIS-funded learning centre in Logan that teaches real life and work skills with tangible results through modern programs young adults actually want to engage in. We offer both group and 1:1 supports, as well as community access supports to young people aged 16-30.
The Role
At BEST, we do things differently to the rest of the industry, so we need someone who is truly invested in our mission. You will be supporting - not leading - our Members as they learn new life and work skills, and you will have a passion or talent that you can share with them as well!
Your Duties
As an Arts Head of Workspace (HoW) Support Worker, known as a Mentor, you will be responsible for developing and teaching engaging art programs for young people with disabilities, designed in line with our 3-Step Learning Formula.
You will also be responsible for the overall safety, fun, and learning of our Members.
Your day-to-day tasks will include, but are not limited to:
Working with the Programs Manager to design and plan robust art programs that teach and engage our Members
Managing and tracking program budgets
Managing your workspace (on-site dedicated art area)
Reviewing and updating program delivery methods to ensure engagement and learning success
Assisting Members as they learn new skills in any other of our many programs
Ensuring Member safety both on campus and when out in the community
Providing emotional and social support to Members
Investing in the success of our Members and supporting them to achieve their goals
Your Skills
An undergraduate degree or diploma in visual arts and design, or similar.
Prior experience and/or qualifications in the community services sector is desirable but not essential.
Absolute must-haves:
Hands-on experience in visual arts (painting, sculpting, digital design, printmaking, crafts, etc.)
A personal passion for providing young people with disabilities the opportunity to learn new skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment: No seriously, we’re constantly on the move whether that be on campus or at parks, shops, and more!
A compassionate personality: You must be a patient, kind, and caring person as we will not accept anything less
Be and have fun: We want all of our staff and Members to love coming to BEST, so being someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously is essential (singing and dancing badly is encouraged)
Belief in the BEST mission: We want our Members to actually learn the skills they need to achieve their goals, and eventually not need us anymore!
Essential Certificates and Licenses
You will need to have obtained the following before starting this new role:
Blue Card
NDIS Worker Screening Card
QLD Police Check
Completed First Aid/CPR Certificate
Completed NDIS Worker Orientation
Current Driver's License
The right to work in Australia
What We Offer
An excellent working environment with a fun team culture
Opportunities for career development
An ongoing role within a well-established business
