About the role
As a Community Learning Officer, you’ll coordinate the development and delivery of a variety of engaging community learning programs, events, and initiatives across our libraries. Aligned with the City’s strategic goals, your work will inspire diverse areas such as learning and literacy, digital inclusion, personal growth, and social connection for people of all ages.
Importantly, you’ll provide excellent customer service to the Canning community through undertaking customer service floor shifts, and be available to work evenings and weekends, in-line with our library opening hours across multiple locations.
Reporting to the Coordinator Community Learning, this is a rewarding part-time contract (0.6 FTE, 45.6 hours per fortnight) temporary until 31 December 2025 (with possibility of extension). What you’ll be doing in the role:
Develop and deliver a range of exciting community learning programs, events, and initiatives
Engage with the community to identify learning needs and opportunities
Measure and evaluate program outcomes, using data to advocate for lifelong learning
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including educators, community groups, and local businesses
Train and mentor colleagues in program delivery and community engagement
Collaborate with other teams within the City of Canning on joint projects
Manage budgets and procurement processes for learning programs
Implement marketing plans to promote community learning initiatives
And you may work across a number of diverse portfolios that may include:
Early Literacy (Ages 0-5)

How you will thrive and what can you bring to the role?
We’re looking for someone with proven knowledge and experience with community engagement and public programming. You’re community-minded, creative, and organised with great program coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
You’ll also bring:
A qualification in Librarianship, Community Development, Education, Technology, Environment, or a related field, or relevant experience
Knowledge of community engagement and learning principles
Experience in planning, delivering, marketing, and evaluating community learning programs
Strong technology and digital literacy skills
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
Effective time management and organisational skills
Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and work well within a team
Ability to work across multiple portfolios and each of the City’s library locations
Current Working with Children Check
Satisfactory National Police Clearance (less than 6 months old)
