We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and caring person to fulfil a stimulating part-time clinical research position with one of Brisbane's leading Spine Surgeons.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position exists to facilitate clinically relevant research with the aim of improving the quality of care of patients with spinal disorders. The successful applicant will be expected to continue existing research projects and assist to develop new ones under the supervision of a research coordinator. The role requires the researcher to coordinate, collate, analyse, and prepare data derived from patients who are undergoing treatment for spinal disorders.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Undergraduate biomedical or health sciences degree (3 or 4 years)
SELECTION CRITERIA
Previous clinical experience in a medical environment working directly with patients
Practical experience & understanding of basic research methods
Experience & knowledge of how to conduct a literature review
Positive interpersonal skills with co-workers
Ability to work independently and unsupervised
Ability to prioritise tasks and multi-task
Eligible to work in Australia
POSITION DETAILS
permanent part-time (20-30 hours per week) over 2 or 3 days
negotiable starting remuneration including superannuation ($33.01 per hour) based on qualifications and relevant experience; in accordance with the Professional Employees Award 2020

DUTIES
Continue existing research projects and assist in the development of new studies
Organise the collection of clinical patient data and ensure it is complete
Interview patients for the purposes of collecting data
Maintain and update existing Excel spreadsheets and FileMaker databases
Assist to analyse the data and prepare reports and scientific papers
Prepare funding submissions
Co-ordinate and attend regular research meetings and conferences
Access online medical journals and source relevant articles for literature reviews
Assist surgeon with co-ordination of activities related to research
WORK ENVIRONMENT & CAREER PROGRESSION
The successful applicant will report directly to Dr Paul Licina who is a practicing Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon. The position is based in Dr Licina's private research centre SpineHUB, at the Brisbane Private Hospital. Patient testing is conducted in Dr Licina's spine rehabilitation clinic, BackSpace.
The goal of the successful applicant is to participate in all training and professional development activities to fast-track knowledge of spinal conditions and nurture professional relationships with external research partners and the internal private practice clinical teams.
The position of Clinical Research Coordinator is being vacated towards the end of the year and it is expected that the successful applicant step into this position which attracts a greater responsibility and salary.
