Assistant Venue Manager - MoPA Nunawading
Museum of Play and Art
Posted 7 days ago
Love fast-paced days, magical moments, and making a real impact? This one’s for you.
MoPA: Museum of Play and Art is one of Australia’s fastest-growing family attractions – and we’re just getting started. Founded in Geelong in 2020, we’ve grown into one of the world’s premier networks of children’s museums, with more than 20 locations planned nationwide.
Our mission? To spark joy and creativity through rich, play-based learning experiences for families – all in beautifully curated museum environments. We’re open 364 days a year, and every one of them is an opportunity to create something magical.
About the Role
We’re on the hunt for an energetic, thoughtful, hands-on leader to join us as Assistant Venue Manager at our brand-new Nunawading location.
You’ll be the right hand to the Museum Manager, helping to lead the floor, run a super-slick operation, and create outstanding guest experiences every single day. That means overseeing museum activations, managing functions, supporting the café and retail teams, and leading an incredible group of part-time and casual staff.
No two days will be the same – and you’ll be right in the thick of it.
Who You Are
You're someone who:
Has experience in hospitality, early learning, venue management, or recreation.
Loves children, thrives in a high-energy environment, and genuinely enjoys creating memorable moments for guests.
Is calm under pressure, wildly organised, and has the confidence to lead a team with kindness, purpose, and high standards.
Is a doer. You’ll be hands-on all day – leading on the floor, resetting exhibits, jumping into the café, solving problems, and always keeping things moving.
This is not a desk job. It’s a leadership role for people who love to be in the action – dancing, high-fiving, cleaning up spills, giving directions, and rolling with whatever the day throws at them.
Why Join MoPA?
Competitive salary + 12% super
A vibrant, supportive team culture
Serious opportunities for growth and development
The chance to create real impact in the lives of thousands of children and families
Oh – and you’ll never have a boring day at work again
A Few Things to Know
We hire for heart. We’re a team of kind, passionate people who look out for each other and go above and beyond for our guests.
We work hard – especially on weekends (when most families visit), so you’ll need to be available Saturdays and Sundays.
Our team includes former café managers, early learning educators, dancers, therapists, and even lawyers – if this role excites you, we want to hear from you, no matter your background. The people who thrive here are the ones who love people, love pressure, and love to move.
What This Role ISN’T:
It’s not about designing exhibits or creative programming – we’ve got a brilliant team for that.
It’s not for someone looking to sit at a desk – you’ll be up, moving, leading, and on your feet all day long. It’s dancing, crafting, tidying, high-fiving, resetting, restocking, storytelling... and then cleaning again!
Our Values
At MoPA, we’re guided by four core values:
🎈 Play is in our DNA
We bring joy and positivity into every moment – even the messy ones.
⚡ Purposefully Efficient
We work smart, use our resources wisely, and prioritise what matters most.
🔍 Meticulous Execution
We don’t just get things done – we get them done brilliantly.
🌱 We’re Growing Together
We learn, give feedback, take on new challenges, and support each other to grow.
If you’re nodding along thinking this sounds like my dream job – we’d love to meet you.
To Apply, You’ll Need To:
Have visited at least one of our museums – we want you to get the MoPA magic
Submit your resume and cover letter
Record a short video (just a simple selfie-style is fine!) introducing yourself and sharing what you’re all about
Send it all to [email protected] – and don’t worry, we reply to every application.
