The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Intake and Triage Officer to provide a critical role within Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme

About the Business Unit

The FAS represents a major leap forward in the government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 the FAS provides financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs

About the Role

Reporting to the FAS Intake and Triage Supervisor, you will review FAS applications to ensure they are ready for the FAS assessment team to action. You will have direct contact with victims and their support people to ensure applications are complete.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Identify, analyse, and provide advice on documentary evidence requirements for applicants or their appointed representative to enable assessment of their application.
  • Analyse applications to determine their priority and complexity using an interpretation of established policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Identify and analyse documentary evidence to make interim decisions on applications to respond to the immediate needs of applicants.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Technical Expertise

  • Proven experience delivering trauma-informed support services, with a strong understanding of family violence, sexual assault, and the victim services system.
  • Skilled in communicating sensitively and empathetically with victim survivors, applying an intersectional and culturally safe approach.
  • Committed to reflective practice and continuous service improvement
  • Commitment to pursuing a culturally safe workplace and organisation and improved outcomes for Aboriginal people, aligned with the principle of self-determination.
  • Proficient in case management systems such as Salesforce; experience with payment processing is also desirable.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services and/or family violence is desirable.
