As Victoria's community grows so does Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). Due to a retirement this busy and rewarding role as the Bodyshop Supervisor is where you will also develop and lead the future teams as the Apprentice Co-ordinator for FRV's workshops.
About the Role
FRV are seeking an experienced Bodyshop Supervisor to lead a dynamic team in FRV's Thornbury location. You will oversee daily workshop tasks, manage trades personnel, ensure quality and safety standards, audit compliance and liaise with management to drive performance.
This hands-on leadership role combines operational oversight with technical involvement in all aspects of the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise workshop staff, including tradespersons and apprentices, ensuring efficient task allocation and performance monitoring.
Manage production schedules, allocate resources, and oversee workflow to meet deadlines and quality benchmarks.
Ensure compliance with OHS/WHS standards, lead daily pre-starts/toolbox meetings, and promote a safety-first culture.
Interpret engineering/workshop drawings and fabrication plans to guide the team’s work in structural steel, pump, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Maintain workshop cleanliness, equipment readiness, and service schedules.
Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and mentor team members.
What We’re Looking For
Trade qualified (min Cert III) in a relevant discipline
Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent
Post trade managerial qualification
Competent in the use of equipment maintenance software
Previous experience in a supervisory capacity
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise fluctuating workloads and delegate effectively
Ability to remain calm under the pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities
Collaborative approach to managing needs of internal vs external stakeholders
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal)
Strong Computer Literacy Skills (including MS Office Suite, SAP)
Ability to work successfully within a team and autonomously
Demonstrated commitment to safety
