Broome Youth and Families Hub is looking for an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to join our hard-working team. This officer will draw on cultural knowledge and lived experience to guide staff and stakeholders in Kimberley-specific cultural understanding, while role modelling and overseeing cultural safety across the organisation and in all community engagement.

Our ideal candidate will be highly organised, responsive to staff requests, and confident supporting others to engage respectfully with Aboriginal clients and communities. They’ll be proactive in identifying ways to improve cultural safety and ensure Aboriginal voices are embedded across our programs and partnerships. They'll share our commitment to strengthening the capacity and resilience of Broome's families.

Key Duties

· As requested, assist and support Aboriginal people to engage with BYFH.

· Support and facilitate engagement between case workers and clients.

· Provide outreach support for clients, either independently or as part of a team, when requested.

· Use initiative to improve BYFH processes to enhance service delivery.

· Drawing on cultural knowledge and lived experience, inform staff and external stakeholders on current Kimberley place-based understanding, knowledge and practices.

· Notify case managers following engagement with client.

· Role model and oversee cultural safety within the organisation, and in community engagement.

· With guidance from Operations Manager and Aboriginal Cultural Governance, assist and support all colleagues at their request.

· Be an active member of the BYFH Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Advisory Group.

· Build and maintain working relationships with identified community Elders and/or respected persons.

· Collaborate effectively with staff across the organisation.

· Maintain collaborative partnerships between service providers, non-government organisations and the Broome and Kimberley community.

· Attend and contribute to team and staff meetings and at external meetings and forums as requested.

· Record and submit activity data and regular reports to monitor and evaluate the services provided.

· Maintain ALO calendar to capture requests from BYFH programs.

· Provide support at cultural events and activities.

Essential Criteria:

Aboriginal and/or Torres Islander descent.

Experience working in a community or government organisation.

High level communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders.

Well organised, able to meet deadlines and manage a diverse workload.

Works well independently and collaboratively within teams.

Demonstrates a proactive approach and takes initiative to identify and act on opportunities without needing direction.

Good problem-solving skills.

Able to work well under pressure.
