Overview of Meredith Goat Farmers
Meredith Dairy, manufacturers of farmhouse goat and sheep milk cheeses and yoghurt, sources goat milk from 7 suppliers, some of whom are owned by Meredith Goat Farm P/L (MGF), and all whose management is provided by MGF (labor requirements, nutrition, reproductive calendar, animal health and welfare programs).
Goat Dairying is an emerging industry in Australia for which optimum management practices are still being developed. In addition to the routine work of milking, feeding, and caring for the goats, the farm staff manage a genetic improvement program, a disease control program, a research program aimed at improving feed efficiency, herd health and welfare, and reproductive parameters.

Meredith Goat Farmers, are looking for someone who is passionate about dairy with a love of the animals and farm work, conscious and able to carry out all duties safely and efficiently.
The below tasks are representative of the routine day to day operations: training is provided however, the successful applicant will have at least two years’ relevant experience and be competent and confident to perform the role.
Duties include:
- Delpro for herd management and recording milk production.
- Trutest for recording life events and weight.
- Apps (prewritten Power Apps applications) for recording disease, deaths and nutrition.
- Operate milking plant and equipment.
- Feed animals including using mixer wagons and augers.
- Know general scientific terminology and assist with processes such as machine repair, controlled breeding,
- Operate computerised systems using menu options:
- Read and record instrument information, e.g., Milk vat temperatures and goat numbers.
- Follow guidelines to maintain machinery, such as through greasing, flushing radiators etc, and report where equipment is not operating normally.
- Feed and care for young stock, including newborn kids.
- Recognise ill animals and report them to the farm vet.
- Recognise obstetrical problems and treat them or escalate them to more experienced staff.
- Understand the principles of safe working and contribute to continuous improvement of safety at daily team meetings.
- Work cooperatively as part of a team, including contribute ideas for continuous improvement in safety, quality and efficiency.
- Assist with other farming activities such s pregnancy testing, fencing, silage making as required.
Applicants must be available to work regular rotating weekends.

As a critical part of the team, you will use your knowledge and skills to perform set tasks such as milking and attending to livestock, pregnancy testing, fencing, silage making, haymaking and fencing. You will apply your current and developing knowledge and skills to multiple operations utilising problem solving and decision making, with an appreciate of the overall processes involved in a Goat dairy farm.
