Inspire. Lead. Make a Difference.

Are you passionate about improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for students? Do you thrive on supporting teachers and leading evidence-based instructional practices? Join us at Wynyard High School, where education goes beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community.

Why Wynyard High School?

Nestled near the scenic Inglis River, Wynyard High is a vibrant Years 7–12 school where students are encouraged to connect with their community and embrace real-world learning. From the Wynyard Show to the Surf Carnival, our students grow through experience, and our staff are at the centre of that journey.

This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities. Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.

The child is at the centre of everything we do and the way we do it.

What We Offer

  • Relocation assistance – we’ll help you make the move.
  • A child-safe organisation with a strong culture of care, respect, and integrity.

About the Role

The primary focus of this role is to support the implementation and embedding of the minimum schooling guarantee for reading and, where there is capacity, to include attention on strengthening numeracy practices. The role will do this through enabling school leadership staff and teaching teams to implement evidence-based, consistent and aligned strategies for the teaching of literacy and numeracy, to improve the learning outcomes for all students within the classroom.

The role will support the implementation of the essential elements of the multi-tiered system of supports (MTTS) framework. This will include a focus on quality Tier 1 instruction, and processes and practices for Tiers 2 and 3.

What You’ll Do

As our Instructional Specialist, you will:

  • Lead and support school leaders and teachers to embed high-quality reading instruction and where possible, strengthen numeracy teaching.
  • Deliver professional learning, model best practices, and provide timely feedback to build teacher capability.
  • Guide the use of assessment tools to track student growth and inform teaching.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure consistent, evidence-based teaching practices across the school.
