About Us

The Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council (OLALC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with the objective and commitment of securing a better future for Aboriginal people in the Orange area. OLALC does this by advocating for the restoration of culturally significant and commercially viable land, pursuing cultural, social, and economic independence for its people, and being politically proactive and vocal about issues affecting Aboriginal people in the area. The OLALC delivers several programs to the community within the LALC boundaries.

Role Overview:
The Caseworker Support Program (CSP) Caseworker is responsible for providing practical support to young people in contact with Youth Justice to overcome offending behaviour and positively reintegrate into community by establishing pro-social lifestyles. The CSP Caseworker will collaborate with a range of stakeholders, particularly Youth Justice NSW.

The Casework Support Program provides support to help young people at risk of ongoing involvement with the criminal justice system to achieve positive change in their lives. The target group for the Program is for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal young people aged between 12 - 18 years:

· Being supervised by YJNSW

· Young people transitioning from custody into the community

· Young people with a Youth Justice Conference (YJC) referral and

· Young people receiving Bail Support.

The program provides a range of supports including mentoring, cultural activities and support, practical support that is responsive to the needs of each young person, to address their underlying needs and issues that contribute to their offending, promote prosocial behaviour and achieve their goals. For example, supports may include connecting young people to cultural activities, helping with financial support (Centrelink) and ID certificates, mentoring support, support to re-engage with school and/or other training, help to access training, apply for work and be job ready.

Your role will include:

· Provide a minimum of four hours direct casework support per week for each client – using a range of strategies to engage young people in the program.

· Support young people to achieve their goals, as agreed upon with the young person, family and Youth Justice. For young people supervised by Youth Justice, aligning goal setting with Youth Justice Case Plans.

· Engage, develop and maintain effective communication and positive relationship with young people you support

· Delivery of cultural activities, mentoring, recreational activities

· Assist and encourage clients to develop skills necessary to achieve their set goals as per their case plans – including skills in life management, vocation, self- esteem, financial management, employment, education and personal development.

· Provide direct support (warm referrals) in helping young people access assistance such as Centrelink, NDIS.

· Support to re-engage with school, TAFE, training and employment.

· Capturing data and preparing weekly Service Delivery Reports for Youth Justice, including recording all contact clients via the data management system.

· Maintain electronic records – ensuring all client documents are completed, and records are detailed and accurate, and comply with relevant legislation.

· Ensure case notes are updated regularly.

· Liaise with the Youth Justice and relevant support services to implement the necessary referral and support of clients on a weekly basis.

Selection Criteria:

· Qualification in Community Services or similar or relevant experience in family or community support

· Strong case management and communication skills

· Experience actively engaging with young people

· Organisational and time management skills

Required Checks:

· Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)

· National Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain)

· Valid C Class Driver’s License
