Our client is a Contracting business based in the Pilbara, operating in the mining, civil and construction sectors.

They are expanding exponentially and currently managing several projects for Rio Tinto.

We are looking for an Earthworks Project Manager with experience in bulk earthworks to join their new Sustaining Project at Rio Tinto's Hope Downs 1 on a 8:6 roster.

The successful applicant will lead the project team, ensuring work is completed safely and in line with company and client procedures, engineering drawings, specifications, budgets, timeframes, and other project requirements.
You will also be liaising with senior management making decisions autonomously and liaising upstream with the leadership team when required.
Your role will involve stakeholder engagement with clients, suppliers, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure thorough planning and safe execution of all project aspects and providing support throughout the project lifecycle, including from the tender phase to execution, with responsibilities in project and logistics planning, procurement, and operational support, both on-site in the Pilbara region and at the Perth and South West offices.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to manage and lead construction projects by strategically planning and controlling equipment, personnel
and materials. This includes carrying out quality inspections, supervising sub-contractors and staff as well as liaising with
clients and other stakeholders and implementing processes that ensure the safe and timely execution of projects of the highest standard and within allocated budgets.

The most important part of this role is Leadership, technical capability and Commercial acumen.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with and manage staff, sub-contractors and suppliers by suitably selecting, evaluating, monitoring and controlling performance and meeting of deliverables.
  • Complete construction HR objectives by selecting, orientating, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counselling and disciplining employees and direct reports.
  • Clearly communicate project expectations to all personnel involved.
  • Plan for, implement, monitor and adhere to policies and procedures of both the company and the client, as well as all other stakeholders as needed.
  • Convey various project information to company management, including statistics, budget information, personnel and sub-contractor performance.
  • General problem solving as well as the ability to identify construction management system improvements.
  • Meet Project budgets and timeframes by implementing suitable controls, monitoring, managing and reporting.
  • Understand the contract, scopes of works, engineering specifications and drawings and identify variations of the contract to any of the commercial and/or technical requirements.
  • Resolve design issues, evaluate and implement change orders.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by ensuring the compliance of standards and any legal regulations.
  • Enhance the company's reputation by exploring opportunities to add value to projects and relaying these to clients.
  • Identify, communicate and obtain approvals for change and implement various enhancements in methodology to improve upon project safety, quality, budget and timeframe.
  • Attend various sites and facilities to gather information and assess site conditions.
  • Play a key role in post award tender negotiations.
  • Provide planning and logistical support.
  • Participate in various company improvement forums, ie lessons learnt, procedural reviews etc.
  • Attend networking events to represent the company to promote and nurture future business prospects.

Requirements:

  • Accredited qualification relevant to the role which may include trade qualification and/or a Certificate or Diploma level qualification
  • Year 12 Certificate
  • A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar) as well as being a registered builder is preferable but not essential
  • Prior relevant experience in a Project Management role within the civil construction, mining and oil & gas industries working across bulk earthworks
  • Strong background working across the Commercial side of the role and Financials of the project
  • Structural, Mechanical, Piping and Dewatering project experience is preferred but not essential
  • Must have a Section 44 Appointed Persons qualification.
  • Proficient in using MS Office, Word, Excel and MS Project
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with proven business acumen.
  • Capable of working productively and effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of technical designs, client and company standards, policies and procedures.
  • Experience in providing planning and logistical support directly to senior managers and estimators.
  • Familiarity with standards, codes, policies, and contracts, with strong attention to detail is preferred.
  • A network of industry contacts that provide future business prospects/synergies for the company as well as access to a network of tradesmen that would add value to the company as employees is desirable
