ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Engineering and Building team sits within the Environment and Planning Directorate and focuses on services and advice in relation to engineering and building activities in the Cumberland area. The team is responsible for the delivery of engineering assessment, infrastructure design, traffic and transport, stormwater and flooding, and building assessment.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Road Safety Officer to join our team to undertake actions in improving Council's road and infrastructure as well as managing road safety. The Road Safety Officer works with local residents, community groups, government agencies and key stakeholders to develop and deliver road safety initiatives.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Traffic Engineering, Public Health, Behavioral Sciences, Marketing, Communication, Education or related disciplines
  • Relevant local/state government management experience in Road Safety matters
  • Class C driver’s licence
  • Hold current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with proven experience in writing and reviewing correspondence and reports in a business environment
  • Excellent customer service skills when and the ability to represent Council competently to other government agencies and the general public
  • Working knowledge and technical skills in Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning including an understanding of relevant legislation
  • Working ability to analyse and interpret information from different sources to pro-actively identify issues and risks and formulate strategies to address them
  • Ability to meet deadlines daily
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with other staff, and/or consultants on special projects
  • Demonstrated experience in the consultation process, particularly with community groups and the ability to relate to people across a range of backgrounds
  • Experience in coordinating community projects
  • Experience in dealing with the media
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.

About this role:

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
  • Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 10 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,631.25 to $1,875.94 per week, plus 12% superannuation, (please note this salary range and superannuation percentage will apply from the first pay period in July 2025)
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
  • Car allowance of $11,608.48 per annum or a leaseback vehicle
  • Mobile phone

What you'll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position, including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Council’s Health Monitoring Procedure, as required
  • Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process, in accordance with Council’s COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
