The Opportunity

AMRRIC is bringing its finance function in-house, a strategic move to strengthen capability, improve support and streamline reporting across the team.

We’re seeking a Finance Officer to take the lead on day-to-day financial operations, with flexible hours that support work-life balance. You’ll manage budgets, grants, payroll, and compliance — all while working in a collaborative, culturally respectful environment that supports the health and wellbeing of people and animals in remote Indigenous communities.

About Us

AMRRIC (Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities) is a national not-for-profit based on Larrakia Land in Darwin. We work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve animal health, which in turn strengthens human health and community well-being. Our work spans veterinary programs, education and training, research, and advocacy.

About The Role

You’re a finance all-rounder who’s organised, accurate, and ready to contribute to something more. In this role, you’ll:

Lead day-to-day finance: Oversee payroll, AP/AR, budgeting, BAS, FBT, PAYG, super, and compliance

Support decision-making: Provide timely insights that help the team stay focused and accountable

Own the systems: Maintain and improve Xero and financial processes across the organisation

Prepare for success: Support grant acquittals, audits and reporting

Collaborate with heart: Work cross-culturally and contribute to a values-aligned team

Make finance approachable: Help build understanding of financial systems across a non-finance audience

Who We’re Looking For

You’ll bring:

Solid experience in financial operations – including budgets, payroll, BAS, PAYG, super, and reporting

Confidence using Xero and a working knowledge of ACNC or other not-for-profit compliance

Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret financial data clearly

Great communication skills – especially when talking finance with non-finance colleagues

A respectful, collaborative approach to working across cultures and communities

It’s a bonus if you also have:

CPA/CA qualification or progress toward it

Experience with grant funding, acquittals, or NFP audit processes

Skills in data analysis or financial process improvement

Why join AMRRIC?

At AMRRIC, you’ll be part of a values-driven team committed to creating lasting impact in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We value our people and provide a supportive, inclusive environment where your wellbeing and growth matter.

When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

Flexible working hours to suit your lifestyle and commitments

Salary packaging up to $15,899 tax-free per year

5 weeks annual leave (pro rata) + Christmas grace leave

Professional development and paid study leave

Relocation support of up to $5,000 to help you settle in
