About the role

The Senior Finance and Procurement Officer is a key role within the Groote Archipelago Regional Council, responsible for providing strategic financial and procurement leadership. This full-time position is located in Parap, NT 0820 and is integral to the Council's operations and financial management.

What you'll be doing

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and ensure compliance with external and internal reporting requirements.

Manage the procurement process for the Council, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices

Provide financial advice and support to Council departments, helping to identify cost-saving opportunities through monitoring budgets and variance analysis

Assist the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures

Supervise and mentor the finance and procurement procedures

Maintain accurate general ledger records and manage internal control procedures

Support the annual audit process and contribute to financial year-end processes

Ensure compliance with financial and local government regulations, and internal policies

• Ensure all taxation obligations and compliance are completed efficiently

What we're looking for

Extensive experience (5+ years) in a senior finance or procurement role, preferably within the government or public sector

Strong background in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting

Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Proven expertise in procurement processes, regulations, and best practices

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels

Demonstrated or developing leadership skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team

Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or a related field

CPA/CA accreditation or working towards professional membership (highly desirable)

Experience with Xero (desirable)
