The Role:
We are seeking a strategic and commercially minded Business Development & Commercial Manager to lead the transformation of Barnardos’ Early Learning Centres (ELCs) into sustainable, profit-generating entities. This 12-month contract position is based at our Head Office in Ultimo and plays a pivotal role in driving operational and financial performance, overseeing key infrastructure and facilities, while leading high-impact business development initiatives.
Reporting to the Executive Leader, Finance and Corporate, and leading a team of four.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the commercial transformation of Barnardos' two existing Early Learning Centres.
  • Oversee the successful project launch of a new ELC site, ensuring operational viability.
  • Lead business development strategies, including funding and tender submissions.
  • Manage Barnardos' facilities portfolio, lease agreements, and contractor relationships.
  • Oversee building operations, motor vehicle fleet, insurances, and supplier performance.
  • Provide strong leadership to a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to cross-portfolio initiatives.
  • Maintain budget control, reporting functions, and risk mitigation strategies across Business and Property Services.

About You:
You are a dynamic and commercially driven leader with experience overseeing early childhood centres or similar service portfolios. You bring strong business acumen, a background in operational management, and a collaborative leadership style. You are comfortable managing diverse stakeholder relationships and enjoy working in a values-driven organisation where your decisions directly impact the wellbeing of children and families.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in business operations, early learning centre management or commercial development.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams and large-scale projects.
  • Sound financial and contract management skills, including budget preparation and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of facilities, property, and asset management in a service-based environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Barnardos.

Salary: Base $146,000 to $160,000 per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free.
