This Federal Government department develops and delivers key policy and program initiatives that shape Australia’s workforce, education, and economic future. The media team supports high-profile programs and maintains strong working relationships with ministerial offices and executive leaders.

About the role:
As the Senior Media Officer, you will play a critical role in delivering proactive and reactive media services for the department. Reporting to the Media Assistant Director, you’ll work closely with ministerial offices, executives, and policy teams to craft and communicate messages that promote policies and programs. This position requires strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

This role can be based in the following office locations:

• Brisbane – Meanjin Country
• Canberra – Ngunnawal Country
• Sydney – Gadigal Country

Please note this Department offers a flexible working arrangement and part of your working week can be worked from home. This is not a remote working role and you must be able to attend the office for part of your week (2 to 3 days).

Role Responsibilities:

• Develop proactive media opportunities to highlight government programs and policies
• Respond promptly and effectively to media enquiries with accurate, consistent messaging
• Draft high-quality media releases, briefings, speeches and talking points
• Provide strategic media advice to senior internal stakeholders
• Contribute to team deliverables and support a collaborative working culture under tight deadlines

What you’ll bring:

• Demonstrated experience in media, speechwriting and strategic communication
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Strong judgement and ability to identify reputational risks
• Government or political office experience is an advantage but not essential
