Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Lecturer to join School of Communication, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice.

The School of Communication in the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Level B) in Digital Media and Communication. We invite applications from scholars whose teaching and research critically engages with the technological transformations reshaping media and communication, and who can provide strategic capacity across our research, teaching, and engagement activities. We are broadly interested in candidates who draw from traditions in the critical social sciences and humanities to study data-driven communication, artificial intelligence, and/or automation in relation to one or more of the following areas: • the evolving logics and practices of advertising, branding, and promotional communication in digital environments; • issues of trust or ethics raised by algorithmic governance, automated media and communication systems or generative artificial intelligence; and/or • policies, practices, and initiatives that support digital inclusion among marginalized or disadvantaged communities.

We’re offering this role as a hybrid position as part of QUT’s commitment to embracing the opportunities created by a more virtual and connected world.

About us

QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus. We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.

About the School of Communication
The School of Communication is world leading in the field of media and communication studies. Our mission is to educate students, industry, government, and community about the power of media and communication technologies and inspire them through our research and teaching activities to think critically, act responsibly, and work successfully. We offer a taught postgraduate program focused on Digital Communication and an undergraduate program with four concentrations:
• Digital Advertising;
• Community and Public Relations;
• Journalism; and
• Media and Communication Industries.

We are consistently ranked as one of the top media and communication programs in Australia according to QS World University Rankings. QUT is also ranked well above world standard in Australia in Communication and Media Studies, and above world standard in Cultural Studies, according to the national research quality assessment exercise conducted by the Australian Government in 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019—‘Excellence in Research for Australia’ (ERA). It is the only university in Australia that has received the top ranking for Communication and Media Studies in every ERA round since 2010.

This environment supports a dynamic and ambitious research and teaching culture, with strengths across media and cultural studies, media industry studies, computational communication, data cultures, journalism studies and journalistic practice, and strategic communication. Our academic staff are internationally connected scholars whose work contributes to the QUT Digital Media Research Centre—the university’s flagship centre for digital media and communication research—and are active in other major research initiatives that include the GenAI Lab and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision Making and Society (ADM+S). For more details about these initiatives, please see https://research.qut.edu.au/dmrc/,.
