Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Animal Technician to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division
QUT’s Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) is looking for a new Animal Technician to join the team. The primary purpose of these positions is the care and maintenance of laboratory animals (with a focus on sheep and pigs) used in preclinical research at MERF.

What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of an associate diploma level qualification in Veterinary Technology or an equivalent discipline, with relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in an animal facility, including experience in the care and husbandry of research animals and competency in standard animal husbandry techniques and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to work effectively as a team member to complete work tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, work in a safe manner in association with provided instruction and maintain records with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position (i.e. lift/move/carry weights of up to 12kg on a regular basis and up to 25-30kg occasionally).
- Good written and oral communication and organisational skills, with the capacity to manage and prioritise tasks with competing demands.
- Current Senior First Aid certificate or be willing and able to obtain one promptly.
- A current “C” class Queensland driver’s licence (manual licence/unrestricted preferred).
