About This Opportunity

Join UQ Library's sector-leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services and Collections team as a self-motivated and adaptable advisor. In this pivotal role, you will provide a wide range of services and expert advice, with a core focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, and communities. This position actively contributes to embedding respect for Indigenous knowledge within library systems and practices, enhancing the discoverability of relevant collections, and fostering engagement with Indigenous communities across Queensland.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are advised collection materials they may interact with in this role may contain images, voices, and videos of deceased persons. Items in the collection may contain words and descriptions that may be culturally sensitive, and which might not normally be used in certain public or community contexts. Furthermore, terms and annotations within the collection can reflect the attitude of the author or the period in which the item was written and may be considered inappropriate today.

Key responsibilities will include:

Enhance Indigenous Client & Community Experience

• Identify opportunities and challenges within the Library experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities, collaborating to develop inclusive services and proactively communicating with these groups.
  

Deliver Information & Learning Support

• Provide advice and services to support teaching, learning, and research, including delivering information sessions, facilitating workshops, and developing and maintaining digital content and learning resources.
  

Lead Service & Collection Development

• Lead and assist in the development, improvement, and maintenance of Library documentation, reports, and statistical information. This includes contributing to the evaluation and management of the Library's collection.
  

Foster Relationships & Industry Awareness

• Build and maintain close working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit and Fryer Library. Also, represent the Library on various projects and groups while maintaining awareness of current industry trends and client requirements.

About You

Essential

• Degree/qualifications with relevant experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australia, including their diverse circumstances.
• Proven ability to provide client-focused support through flexible delivery options. This includes self-motivation, initiative, and the capacity to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, encompassing emotional intelligence, negotiation, consultation, facilitation, and presentation. Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with diverse groups, both internal and external to the University.
• An effective team player with a collaborative, positive, and inclusive attitude. Proven ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and demonstrated skills in facilitating group workshops and training sessions.
  

Desirable

• Experience in higher education, including an understanding of current trends in learning, teaching, and research,
• Experience working with cultural heritage collections in a library, archive, museum, or similar organisation.
• Digital literacy skills encompassing tools for productivity, business communication, information management, social media, and web content development.
