The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) was established with a clear vision that the Northern Territory’s natural assets are managed sustainably for the benefit of all. The Department leads a strategic land resource assessment program that underpins land use planning, economic development, improved land management and conservation initiatives.
As the Principal Compliance and Regulation Officer your primary objective is to manage the compliance and enforcement functions of the Development Coordination Branch relating to land clearing on unzoned land under the Planning Act 1999 across the Territory and ensure a robust and credible compliance program is maintained.
Your key duties and responsibilities involve undertaking and coordinating the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs, providing briefings and supporting documentation, including guidelines, codes of practice and fact sheets on native vegetation management. In your role you will exercise responsibilities of an Authorised Officer under the Planning Act 1999 regarding native vegetation management and undertake site inspections to assess compliance.
To be successful you require, high level experience in administering legislation and providing advice on environmental matters, experience in conducting regulatory investigations and high-level project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines. Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain effective networks is essential.
A degree in natural resource management, environmental science or relative qualification and Certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar would be well received.
