About the Role

As the Asset Officer – Arboriculture, you'll be the go-to expert for the strategic management of Council’s urban and rural tree assets. Working closely with the Horticulture Coordinator, you’ll help shape how trees are planned, maintained, recorded, and protected across the municipality.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Planning and delivering tree maintenance, renewal, watering, and stump removal programsConducting tree inspections, preparing detailed reports, and providing specialist arboricultural advice

Overseeing the Council’s tree asset register and leading the 5-year Tree Asset Audit

Contributing to strategic documents like the Tree Management Strategy and Electric Line Clearance Management Plan

Managing contractor relationships, budgets, quotes, and procurement processes

Educating internal and external stakeholders on Council’s tree management role

Chairing monthly Tree Planning Meetings and collaborating across departments on arboriculture issues

You’ll be using your expertise every day to ensure the safety, health, and sustainability of the region’s treasured green assets.

About You

You're not just passionate about trees – you're strategic, organised, and confident in driving positive change in urban forestry. You thrive both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and you're ready to step into a role where your advice shapes long-term planning.

We’re looking for someone with:

A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Arboriculture, with relevant practical experience

Proven experience managing a tree asset database and implementing tree maintenance programs

Strong communication and interpersonal skills – you can prepare clear reports and engage stakeholders at all levels

A solid grasp of software systems like Excel, Word, TechOne, and arboricultural asset platforms

A current Driver Licence, and preferably a QTRA qualification

The ability to plan, prioritise, and manage arboricultural projects and contractors with limited supervision
