Hear and Say is a Queensland provider of audiology, speech pathology, listening and spoken language (LSL) therapy, and hearing screening. We are a non-for-profit organisation with specialist expertise in paediatrics. Our mission is to support people of all ages to hear, listen and speak.

Are you passionate about making a real impact in the lives of children and families? Hear and Say is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker, Psychologist or Registered Counsellor to join our multidisciplinary team. This part-time position (3 days/22.8 hours per week) plays a key role in supporting the emotional and social wellbeing of clients across Queensland, both pre- and post-hearing implant surgery.

This role is based in Brisbane; however, we are open for this to be based in any of our Hear and Say centers in Queensland for the right candidate with the requirement to travel to other centers as required. In addition, this role requires the ability to travel (in line with the company Travel Policy) a minimum of 1-2 times a year to support regional centers, staff and clients.

Position overview

You will provide critical psychosocial/counselling support to clients and their families throughout their journey with hearing loss and intervention. From initial assessment to post-operative follow-up, your expertise will enhance the quality of care and improve outcomes. You’ll also contribute to the ongoing development of our clinical team and support the delivery of our innovative statewide services in both in-person and Tele-practice formats.

Key role functions

Hearing Implant Support:

Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments pre-surgery

Support clients and families in understanding the hearing implant process

Provide post-surgery follow-up care and counselling

Collaborate with clinical and medical professionals

Attend Hearing Implant Program Forums and contribute to care planning

Client and Family Support:

Provide support following diagnosis and through treatment stages

Address issues such as grief, adjustment, and emotional wellbeing

Assist families with behaviour management strategies

Contribute to resilience programs and playgroups

Travel to Hear and Say centers statewide as needed

Organisational Contribution:

Deliver training and professional development for clinical teams

Participate in quality improvement, research and community partnership activities

Maintain accurate clinical documentation

Represent Hear and Say’s values and uphold health and safety standards

What we are looking for

You are a highly motivated professional with a strong clinical background and a passion for supporting families. You bring a trauma-informed, family-centred approach and a deep understanding of the psychosocial impacts of hearing loss and disability. The successful candidate will possess:

Demonstrated experience in a clinical setting working across the lifespan as well as possessing personal values that align to our caring and inclusive family-based culture are essential. Experience in the disability, health, and/or education sector is highly desirable.

Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to provide routine counselling, assessments and care planning interventions for clinical services.

Ability to work within multidisciplinary team and prioritise workload according to clinical indicators, risk management frameworks and organisational requirements.

Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate clinical records and prepare reports to required standards as well as be adept at giving presentations.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including service providers, community agencies and groups.

Proven experience in developing partnerships to support service delivery activities aligned with organizational goals and business plan along with strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.

Highly motivated, resilient and accountable as well as being organized and methodical with the ability to thrive in a busy and dynamic work environment.

Mandatory requirements of this role include-

1. Full current membership of the Australian Psychological Society or Australian Counselling Association, including a degree or significant experience in Clinical Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.

2. Eligibility to clear probity checks including disability worker screening and working with children check (Blue Card / Yellow Card).

3. Valid open driver’s license with the ability and willingness to travel locally and regionally to deliver this statewide role. This role is expected to travel (in line with the company Travel Policy) a minimum of 1 to 2 times a year to all Hear and Say centres or more to meet operational needs.
