About us
Placemaking NSW is responsible for managing and caring for some of Sydney’s most iconic harbourside venues and locations, including The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and White Bay Power Station. We also lead the planning and delivery of the Bays West Urban Renewal Precinct, a state significant project that will bring new homes, jobs, and public spaces to 77 hectares of government-owned land just 2 kilometres from Sydney's CBD.

The role
At Placemaking NSW, we’re looking for someone to help shape some of Sydney’s most iconic precincts—including The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Luna Park and more. This role is all about championing design excellence and working closely with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to guide urban, landscape and public domain design outcomes. From early concept through to delivery, you’ll bring a design lens to projects of all sizes—whether it’s a major capital works initiative or the finer details of routine public domain upgrades.

You'll be responsible for providing clear, practical design advice, keeping projects on track with quality at the forefront, while balancing competing priorities and tight timeframes. You’ll contribute to everything from strategic master planning to construction delivery—preparing strategies, reviewing proposals, and helping others understand complex design issues. This is a great opportunity to drive place-based design outcomes that reflect best practice, community needs and the unique heritage and identity of each precinct.
