About Us

The Livingstone Shire sits nestled along the beautiful Capricorn Coast and covers approximately 11,776 square kilometres, with a population of almost 41,000 residents. Livingstone Shire Council was created in 2013 and employs approximately 400 people.

Livingstone and the Capricorn Coast is a relaxed coastal environment in which connecting with family, friends and the community is a high priority. The area has an abundance of natural features including countless beaches with sheltered swimming, picturesque national parks, pristine rainforests and idyllic offshore islands, making it an ideal place to live. Our beaches, bushes and tropical rainforests are second to none and have been specifically preserved, designed and transformed to show the unique, untouched charm of Livingstone.

Livingstone Shire Council promotes a positive culture in the workplace with all staff demonstrating high standards of Accountability, Teamwork, Community, Potential and Positivity. These values and behaviours set the standard for Council and are embodied throughout the organisation.

The Role:

If you are a creative communicator with a passion for communications, marking and digital media, an exciting opportunity has become available to join Council’s Communications Team as a temporary Marketing Assistant, in a maternity relief capacity, whilst covering for a valued team member on parental leave. This is a dynamic role where you’ll help shape how we connect with our vibrant and growing community.

As our Marketing Assistant, you’ll collaborate closely with a small, passionate team to support the delivery of engaging, informative, and timely communications across a variety of channels. Your work will play a pivotal role in ensuring our residents stay up to date with important Council news, services, initiatives, and community events.

No two days are ever the same! Reporting to the Strategic Communications Lead, your key responsibilities will include:

Managing and scheduling content for Council’s social media platforms and moderating community interactions;

Publishing updates to Council’s website, including events and public notices;

Producing the fortnightly internal staff e-Bulletin;

Completing basic design tasks, ordering branded materials such as name tags and business cards; and

Monitoring the communications inbox and providing administrative support across the team.

We’re looking for someone who is not only digitally savvy but also thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings creativity and attention to detail, and is passionate about delivering high-quality customer service.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Demonstrated experience in a similar role focused on communications, marketing, digital media, and administration

Proficiency in managing website content and maintaining a consistent social media schedule;

A current motor vehicle driver’s licence;

Strong capability in using digital tools and platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, with a willingness to learn Council-specific systems; and

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-first mindset; and

A detail-oriented and proactive approach with strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Why Join Us?

When you join Council, you become part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and service to the community. We offer a supportive and inclusive workplace culture where your contributions are recognised and where you can make a real impact every day.

You will work 15 hours per week over 3 days, Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday.

Benefits:

We believe that when you feel supported, you do your best work. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Annual Salary – $42.59 per hour (QLGIA (Stream A) Level 3 including Locality Allowance) — plus the satisfaction of knowing your work makes a real impact across Council and for the community!

A long weekend every week!

A values-driven culture where safety, innovation, and continuous improvement are more than just words—they’re how we work, every day.
