Project Manager, Operational Growth and Expansion

We are seeking a highly driven, autonomous, and strategically minded Project
Manager, Operational Growth and Expansion, to spearhead our ambitious
operational expansion.
This pivotal role is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of a new warehouse and
operational facility establishment and optimisation, from initial strategic conception
and site selection through to construction management and operational readiness.
This is a demanding and dynamic position that requires exceptional resilience and
adaptability. You will operate with a high degree of independence, often outside of
traditional business hours, to meet critical project deadlines and overcome
unforeseen challenges.
This is not a desk-bound role; it demands a blend of high-level strategic thinking,
meticulous planning, and practical, on-the-ground operational engagement, including
hands-on work with tools where required to ensure project continuity and quality.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills are key to fulfil this role
successfully.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Execution:
o Lead the full project lifecycle from inception to handover, ensuring
projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality
standards.
o Identify and quantify business requirements and develop scope
o Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, schedules,
budgets, and resource allocation.
o Oversee all aspects of site preparation, construction, renovation, and
fit-out of new and existing facilities, including managing contractors and
suppliers.
o Implement robust quality control processes and conduct regular site
inspections to ensure adherence to specifications and safety
standards.
o Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, developing contingency
plans to address unexpected issues.
o Manage procurement processes for equipment, materials, and
services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.
Strategic Planning & Feasibility:
o Develop and refine the strategic roadmap for new facility growth and
expansion in alignment with national business objectives.
o Conduct comprehensive market research, site identification, and
feasibility studies for potential warehouse and operational locations
across Australia.
o Undertake detailed analysis of zoning regulations, permits,
infrastructure requirements, and environmental considerations for each
prospective site.
o Prepare detailed business cases, cost estimates, and financial
projections for new projects, presenting recommendations to senior
leadership.
Stakeholder Management & Communication:
o Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders
and external stakeholders (landlords, government bodies, contractors,
suppliers).
o Provide regular, concise, and accurate project updates and reports to
key stakeholders, including performance against KPIs.
o Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships effectively.
Unpredictable and Hands-On Working Environment:
o Function as a self-starter with a high degree of independence, taking
full ownership of projects and problem-solving without constant direct
supervision.
o Possess a hands-on and operational approach, willing and able to
engage in practical tasks, including the actual use of tools (e.g., basic
construction, assembly, or repair work) to troubleshoot, assist, or
expedite project progress on-site when necessary.
o Ability to travel extensively across Australia, often at short notice, to
project sites.
Skills and Experience:
-Proven experience (10yrs +) in end-to-end project management, specifically
focused on the establishment, renovation, or expansion of
- Demonstrable experience in strategic planning and feasibility analysis for
significant projects.
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to
manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Trade qualification or practical experience in a relevant field (e.g., carpentry,
electrical, plumbing) demonstrating the ability to perform hands-on toolwork.
- Superior negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project,
Asana, Trello) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A pragmatic and results-oriented mindset, with a proven ability to deliver
under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgement in
dynamic environments.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience with greenfield and brownfield site development.
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Construction Management,
Engineering, or a related discipline.
