  • Permanent Full-Time – 38 hours per week

Moree Plains Shire Council is seeking a reliable and dedicated Senior Biosecurity Officer to support our Environmental Health, Compliance & Regulatory Services team by:

  • Leading and coordinating biosecurity programs and initiatives to mitigate risks associated with pests, diseases, and weeds
  • Conducting inspections, surveys, and assessments to monitor and enforce compliance with relevant biosecurity regulations
  • Developing and implementing strategies to prevent, control, and eradicate biosecurity threats in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on biosecurity matters to council staff, landholders, industry representatives, and the wider community
  • Preparing detailed reports, recommendations, and educational materials to raise awareness about biosecurity issues and best practices
  • Participating in emergency response activities related to biosecurity incidents as part of a dedicated team
  • Maintaining accurate records of biosecurity activities, including data collection and analysis for continuous improvement purposes
  • Contributing to the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to biosecurity management within the council
  • Keeping abreast of legislative changes, emerging trends, and advancements in biosecurity technology to inform proactive decision-making

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (Certification, Diploma or above) in Conservation Land Management, Science, Environment, Horticulture or related discipline
  • Demonstrated 2 years work experience in identifying and taking action to control the spread of Priority Weeds.
  • Demonstrated experience with the interpretation of Acts and legislation as well as their application in the workplace, including knowledge of the role of an authorized officer under the Biosecurity Act 2015.
  • Ability to operate all plant associated with weed control such as ATV’s, Quick Sprays, Boom Sprays etc.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while being able to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures;
  • Ability to interact with Landholders, Land managers, Council staff and advise community members of their obligations and requirements under Biosecurity Act 2015.
  • Sound literacy, numeracy and computer skills with the ability to keep accurate records, including daily running sheets, fuel usage, timesheets and any other applicable paperwork.

  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse audience.

Ticket, Licences and Certificates:

  • Current Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Traffic Controller Cards including Traffic Controller & Implement Traffic Control Plans
  • White Card (General Construction and Induction Card) - please note, you can obtain your White Card during the application process if you do not hold a White Card.

Immunisations required:

  • Ability to provide evidence of vaccination/immunisation for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus. This includes maintaining the currency of these throughout your period of employment.
