This is a remote/work-from-home position, part-time.

We are seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Digital Communications Officer to support the organisation’s strategic communications by developing and delivering effective, engaging digital content that reflects our advocacy priorities and values. This role is ideal for a creative communicator with a strong interest in First Nations justice, family violence prevention, and human rights.

The role offers a unique opportunity to utilise and build on professional skills while contributing to powerful storytelling and community engagement. Working under the guidance of the Senior Communications Officer, you will help plan, create, and publish content across digital platforms, maintain brand consistency, and ensure our communications are respectful, advocacy-based, and culturally safe.

Responsibilities of the position include:

Undertake content planning and scheduling by drafting and posting regular content across social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter) and email platforms (e.g. Mailchimp), ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and messaging priorities.

Create or source engaging visual and multimedia content (e.g., graphics, tiles, short videos, photos) using templates or tools like Canva to support advocacy, campaigns, and sector storytelling.

Maintain a social media calendar and identify content opportunities tied to sector activity, key dates, and national awareness campaigns.

Track and report on digital performance (e.g., social media engagement, email open rates, website analytics) and provide suggestions for content optimisation and audience growth.

Monitor social media activity and flag relevant messages, comments, or questions for the team, helping ensure a respectful and responsive online presence.

Contribute to digital campaigns by supporting content coordination, scheduling, and basic reporting.

Support communication efforts by assisting with the coordination of content from internal staff and member organisations to help showcase their work, events, and advocacy priorities across digital channels.

Assist with website updates by uploading new information, checking content for accuracy, and helping keep pages current and accessible.

Contribute to the organisation’s digital asset management, including organising files, maintaining version control, and ensuring copyright compliance.

Work collaboratively with the team and build skills across communications platforms with ongoing learning and supervision.

About You

Relevant qualifications or equivalent knowledge, experience and training.

Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate tact and discretion.

Demonstrated skills in content creation, such as writing copy for social media, creating graphics with tools like Canva, and basic video editing.

Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and implementing effective audience engagement strategies.

Strong attention to detail and clear written communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with a small team and manage your own time across part-time hours.

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, preferably in a research or policy context.

Commitment to the rights and self-determination of First Nations people and their communities.
