Role Overview

Join us as a Bushfire Assessor at Bushfire Smart! Your work hours will be spent out on the road conducting on-site assessments, in the office preparing detailed reports, or talking to clients, providing them with advice so that they understand the recommended bushfire risk mitigation strategies. You'll dive deep into bushfire behaviour, planning and building regulations, and vegetation classification. Your key responsibilities will include conducting Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments, using GIS and mapping tools, and working closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure bushfire requirements are understood.

Who is this role suited for

This role is perfect for anyone with a passion for the built environment through building design, fire safety, environmental science, planning, or engineering. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn about bushfire behaviour, fuel loads, and vegetation classification. While FPAA BPAD Level 1 accreditation or above would be a bonus and reflected in the salary, full training will be provided.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as strong attention to detail and analytical skills. You'll need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team. A valid driver's license and a willingness to travel across Western Australia for site assessments is also required

Key Responsibilities

Conduct on-site Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments.

Prepare detailed reports in accordance with relevant standards and planning requirements (e.g., AS 3959, Planning for Bushfire Guidelines).

Provide bushfire planning information to clients, including alternative assessment methods and regulatory compliance guidance.

Interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, and planning frameworks.

Utilise GIS and mapping tools to analyse site-specific bushfire risk factors.

Liaise with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project outcomes align with planning and building requirements.

Stay updated on industry trends, research, and policy changes.
