PBF Australia (Paraplegic Benefit Fund) is a national not-for-profit organisation committed to reducing the incidence and impact of spinal cord injury (SCI). We are currently seeking a passionate and resilient individual with lived experience of SCI to join our team in a unique dual role—coordinating our hospital-based Peer Support Program and supporting our team of lived experience Injury Prevention Presenters.
This is a part-time, flexible position focused on mentoring, coordination, and wellbeing support.
About the Role
This role combines two key functions:
1. Peer Support Coordinator (Fiona Stanley Hospital)
Lead and manage the delivery of PBF’s Peer Support Program in collaboration with hospital staff
Supervise and support a small team of Peer Support Mentors (all with lived experience of SCI)
Provide compassionate, non-clinical peer support to patients with new spinal cord injuries
Coordinate visit schedules, documentation, and program reporting
Liaise with rehabilitation teams to ensure integrated support
2. Lived Experience Presenter Wellness Mentor
Conduct regular check-ins with PBF’s Injury Prevention Presenters (lived experience storytellers)
Offer guidance, peer mentoring, and wellbeing support
Help new presenters build confidence in storytelling and engagement
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture within the presenter team
Collaborate with internal teams to enhance presenter training and welfare initiatives
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
Lived experience of spinal cord injury and strong personal adjustment
Empathy, professionalism, and a supportive leadership approach
Experience in peer support, mentoring, or coordination roles
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Understanding of confidentiality, boundaries, and trauma-informed practices
Desirable:
Experience working in hospital, rehab, or community health environments
Knowledge of storytelling, injury prevention, or public speaking
Training in peer support, mentoring, counselling, or health promotion
Familiarity with PBF’s mission, values, and programs

Other Requirements
National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
Based at Fiona Stanley Hospital; occasional remote work or travel may be required
Participation in PBF’s training and mentoring programs
