About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering is excited to be expanding into veterinary education, and we’re looking for a motivated Technical and Laboratory Officer to help bring our new veterinary anatomy and physiology teaching spaces to life.

In this hands-on role, you’ll support teaching and research activities by preparing veterinary teaching specimens, managing lab equipment and maintaining resources to ensure smooth and effective laboratory operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and managing anatomical and other biomedical specimens, lab equipment and consumables.
  • Setting up laboratories and student-facing clinics for scheduled classes.
  • Ensuring laboratory safety and cleanliness, and compliance with WHS, biosecurity, and ethical standards.
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance, procurement and resource coordination.
About you

You’ll bring strong practical experience working in technical support roles, ideally with knowledge of animal anatomy, veterinary or biomedical science. You’re known for being methodical, safety-conscious, and proactive, with great attention to detail and a commitment to best practice in laboratory operations.

More specifically, you will have:

  • A relevant degree and demonstrated experience in a technical or laboratory setting, particularly in anatomical and physiological areas. Experience in veterinary or biomedical teaching environment is highly desirable though not a requirement.
  • Current or future vaccination for Q Fever and tetanus and current Senior First Aid and Resuscitation certificates.
  • Practical skills in laboratory procedures and familiarity with preparation of anatomical specimens and other biomedical learning resources.
  • A demonstrated understanding of WHS and ethical standards in technical or teaching environments.
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary and benefits

  • Full-time, continuing (permanent)
  • Located at Lismore, NSW 2480.
  • HEW Level 5. The base salary ranges from $80,737 - $89,717 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $104,969.
