Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your Opportunity
Mission Australia's Transition to Work (TtW) program supports young people aged 15-24 to build skills, confidence, and independence to enter employment or education. Based in Casuarina, this is an on-site position responsible for coordinating the effective delivery of TtW in Palmerston, while holding a small caseload of up to 30 young people.

You will provide direct supervision to a small team of Youth Employment Specialists, ensuring best practice in service delivery, supporting performance development, and maintaining compliance with contractual, administrative, and reporting requirements. This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership experience, resilience, and a genuine passion for empowering youth.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct line management and supervision to Youth Employment Specialists, including performance reviews, mentoring, and day-to-day support.
  • Manage a small caseload of up to 30 young people, delivering tailored, strengths-based support to help them overcome vocational and non-vocational barriers.
  • Monitor program performance against KPIs, outcomes, and DEWR requirements, implementing improvement strategies and ensuring quality assurance standards are met.
  • Support recruitment, induction, training, and development of new and existing staff to foster a high-performing and cohesive team.
  • Liaise with local employers, service providers, and stakeholders to build partnerships, create referral pathways, and develop work and learning opportunities for young people.
  • Coordinate compliance activities including internal audits, WHS checks, financial approvals, and accurate documentation of program claims and wage subsidies.
  • Represent Mission Australia in internal and external meetings, community networks, and strategic discussions in collaboration with the Area Manager.

Requirements for Success

  • Minimum of two years' experience in a leadership role, ideally within Employment Services, Youth Work, or related community service settings.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Employment Services, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated resilience, maturity, and emotional intelligence, with the ability to maintain strong professional boundaries and navigate complex youth needs.
  • Proven ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and contractual guidelines, including reporting and administrative compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to mentor staff and build strong community and stakeholder relationships.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and case management systems, with strong administrative capability and attention to detail.
  • Culturally aware, with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols.
  • Must have a myGovID account (set up at a minimum of standard strength) and use this account via the myGovID app to facilitate login to online systems for work purposes.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your Benefits
To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:

  • Rewarding work - every day you know you're making a real difference
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
  • Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support.
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Extra leave available including an additional public holiday, additional annual leave day on your work anniversary and the opportunity to purchase further annual leave.
