About the role

Are you a senior legal professional ready for your next challenge? The NSW Department of Customer Service is offering a rare opportunity where your strategic leadership will influence regulatory enforcement, public policy, and legal outcomes that matter to millions across NSW.

As Assistant General Counsel, Enforcement, you will lead a high-performing team of legal professionals supporting the enforcement priorities of Fair Trading, the Building Commission, and Revenue NSW. You will provide expert legal advice on civil and criminal litigation, regulatory compliance, and administrative law, while shaping the legal strategy of the state's most critical enforcement initiatives.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide authoritative legal advice on prosecutions, enforcement actions, and administrative reviews.
  • Lead and mentor a large team of lawyers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Advise on complex investigations and compliance strategies to support regulatory priorities.
  • Guide legal input into legislation, cabinet submissions, and ministerial correspondence.
  • Ensure legal operations meet the highest standards of ethics, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Does this sound like you? If so, we want to hear from you!

  • criminal prosecutions,
  • civil regulatory enforcement,
  • merits or judicial review.
  • Proven experience leading, inspiring and bringing together a team of experts to achieve desired outcomes in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Strong litigation skills in at least two of the following areas:
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to provide strategic advice on complex legal issues to senior government, ministerial and Executive staff
  • Experience in any of consumer law, building and construction and tax controversy is also desirable.
