Legislative Assembly
Posted 2 days ago
Are you?
A resourceful and motivated researcher with an interest in the political process and keen to develop a career in the Western Australian Parliament?
We are looking for a team player with excellent interpersonal skills to join us in supporting the Legislative Assembly's Committees, in a full-time, 12-month contract position.
As a Research Officer, you will see Western Australia's Parliament up close. You will work closely with a Principal Research Officer to support one of our Committees and engage apolitically with elected Members with a diverse range of political opinions and objectives.
Our ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly take in large volumes of information; write appropriately to a wide range of audiences; analyse and think about issues; and use practical and logistical skills to organise a range of events, including public hearings and travel.
About the job
Supporting Members from all sides of politics, our staff give advice on practical administrative matters, as well as assisting the Committees to develop policy. We help Committees to hear from stakeholders including experts, professional organisations, interest groups and members of the public. We prepare a wide range of documents to support the Committees' work, including correspondence, meeting papers and inquiry reports.
Working in a parliamentary environment can be challenging, and successful applicants should expect major peaks and troughs in workload based in part on the Parliamentary sitting calendar. In return, you will be offered daily exposure to the Parliament and given a degree of autonomy and independence unique in the public sector.
The Legislative Assembly offers generous employment conditions and a range of workplace benefits including onsite parking, a gymnasium, and access to Health and Wellbeing initiatives.
