About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter / Welder to join our team at Autech Rail Australia Pty Ltd in Melbourne, VIC. This full-time role is a crucial position within our company, allowing you to utilise your exceptional mechanical and welding skills to maintain and repair our fleet of assets.

What you'll be doing

Performing routine maintenance and servicing on a range of vehicles, plant and machinery

Conducting thorough inspections and identifying any issues or repair requirements

Undertaking welding work to fix and fabricate parts as needed

Addressing breakdowns and ensuring vehicles are quickly returned to operational status

Documenting all work completed and maintaining detailed records

What we're looking for

Qualified MEM31419 Certificate III in Engineering – Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic (similar qualifications and experience will be considered)

Proven experience as a welder, with the ability to carry out a range of welding techniques

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety

The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

Good communication and report-writing skills

Valid Australian driver's licence

Must have Australian work rights and be eligible to work permanently in Australia

Must be able to pass pre-employment medical and police background checks

Minimum of 3 years' experience in mechanical fitting and welding, preferably in rail or heavy industry

Be willing to work interstate at times
