What is the role?

Do you want a rewarding career that contributes to the safety of all Australians? An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and dynamic individual to join the AFP in a Team Leader role in our Honors & Awards team, which sits under the Recognition and Customs section.

We are seeking an innovative and passionate individual to lead a team of dedicated members, celebrating and recognising the significant impact of our Policing activities in the Australian Capital Territory, nationally and internationally. This role supports the Senior Team Leader to build the profile of the AFP Recognition System using innovative strategies to recognise and promote the achievements of the AFP and partner agencies. You will have experience in managing teams, delivering events and coordinating projects.

As a Team Leader you also play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

The Team Leader, Honours and Awards is responsible for the maintenance and management of the AFP Internal Awards Regulations and Framework.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Facilitating AFP Internal Awards and external awards, and externally through the Australian Honours system;
  • Coordinating award nominations, reporting and recommendation process through the AFP National Awards and Recognition Committee;
  • Training and mentoring of team members;
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Preparing written briefs including ministerial and external correspondence as required.

The team provide support and assistance to ceremonial events, including investitures, musters and the National Police Remembrance Day services as required.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing people.
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful projects and team outcomes.
  • Experience in delivering advice for senior executive and government.
  • Experience in developing and fostering internal and external relationships and networks.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully in a diverse setting.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and compressed deadlines.

Desirable Requirements

  • Formal qualifications or proven experience in project management
  • Knowledge of both Australian Honours and Awards and AFP Recognition Framework
