Our Local Government client is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified Environmental Health Officer to join their Safer Communities team within the Development & Communities Division. This is role offered on a 3 month contract with possibility of extension.
In this dynamic and varied role, you will play a key part in promoting and maintaining high standards of public and environmental health across our vibrant riverside City. Reporting to the Coordinator Environmental Health, you’ll contribute to a broad range of public health activities that support community wellbeing and compliance with legislation.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Conduct inspections of food premises, public buildings, dwellings, stables, aquatic facilities and events to ensure compliance with public health and safety standards.
- Investigate health-related complaints including noise, pests, infectious diseases, and environmental nuisances, and take appropriate enforcement actions.
- Review development applications to ensure environmental health considerations are met, including for food businesses and on-site effluent systems.
- Provide education and advice to the public, residents and local businesses on food safety, immunisation, pest control and environmental health legislation.
- Develop and implement monitoring programs such as food sampling, mosquito control, recreational water testing and public health risk mitigation.
- Prepare detailed reports, liaise with legal representatives when necessary, and contribute to the continuous improvement of health service delivery within the City.
What You’ll Bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Food Act, the Noise Act (Authorised Noise Officer) under the Environmental Protection Act 1986
- Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Environmental Protection Act, and associated regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound analytical and report-writing skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to community wellbeing and continuous improvement.
- A current WA driver’s licence.
- White card.
