Description
About the Role:
As a Senior Rates Officer, you'll take ownership of key rating functions--overseeing the efficient and compliant collection of property rates, managing the rating database, and providing advice on rating and debt processes. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity and service delivery capacity of the council.
PLEASE NOTE: Local Government experience is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the integrity of the council's rating database and valuation records
- Generate and issue rates notices, penalties, and related communications
- Manage outstanding rates and administer rebate programs
- Provide expert advise on rating matters and legislative requirements
- Assist in development and reviewing rates-related policies and procedures
- Supervise and train junior staff (where applicable)
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of property assessments and rates
Profile
About You:
We're looking for a skilled, motivated individual who brings both technical accuracy and community-minded service. You must have:
- Proved experience in local government rates environment
- In-depth knowledge of Local Government and Valuation of Land legislation
- Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of organisation and attention to detail
- Proficiency in property and rates systems, plus Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and productively in a remote setting
