Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.

Legal Aid NSW's Broken Hill office is a vital presence in the region, officially launched with strong community and government support in July 2023.

After years of operating on a fly-in, fly-out basis, the team now has a dedicated, public-facing office. This permanent presence allows locals and people in surrounding areas to access essential legal support in all practice areas such family, criminal and civil law.


About the role

Provide high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas such as consumer, mental health, human rights, employment, housing, immigration, social security, and/or coronial inquests, or other areas of civil law. Manage an efficient and effective legal practice including supervision of other staff and attending outreach.

We're looking for a passionate Solicitor Grade IV to lead complex civil law matters and support vulnerable communities across Broken Hill and surrounding areas such as Dareton, Wentworth & Wilcannia.

The essential requirements for this role

You must:

be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us

be willing to do a Criminal Record Check

hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)

hold a current NSW driver's licence

We deliver legal services in most areas of criminal, family and civil law. Our services are provided through our Central Sydney office and 21 regional offices. Legal Aid NSW employs approximately 900 staff. Legal Aid NSW delivers legal services in partnership with the private legal profession through grants of legal aid.
