Job description:

Solicitor

Homes NSW - DCJ Legal

  • Temporary Opportunity (35 hrs. per week), initial term to 30 June 2027
  • Location: Parramatta with flexible working arrangements available
  • Legal Officer IV, Base Salary ($139,862 - $$142,554), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Who we are

The Major Housing Projects team is part of Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Legal Team. Major Housing Projects works with clients in Homes NSW to provide safe and secure homes for those in need in NSW. We primarily work on large-scale property development projects for new residential housing and urban renewals, with a focus on delivering new social & affordable housing in vibrant communities.

Your role

The Major Housing Projects legal team is currently recruiting a Solicitor on a temporary, full-time basis. Initial contract term is to 30 June 2027, with scope for extension and/or ongoing appointment. As a Solicitor, you will play an essential role in realising ambitious project objectives (for example, the urban renewals at Waterloo and Midtown Macquarie Park), delivering on Premier's Priorities and implementing Ministerial policies.

It is a fabulous time to join our team given our central role in implementing the Building Homes for NSW Program - the NSW Government's $6.6 billion investment in social and affordable housing.

You'll also contribute to the delivery of social and affordable housing programs, supported by Federal Government funding, by working closely with the CHP, development, and finance sectors.

What you'll do

As a Solicitor, you will be part of a small and dynamic legal team which drives a range of major housing projects in property development, commercial and property law. You will directly support the Principal and Senior Solicitors and partner with our clients in Homes NSW using legal expertise in commercial, real property, finance and property development fields.

You'll work as part of a team that is genuinely passionate about the amazing projects we deliver. You'll find a fast-paced, collegiate environment where everyone is always happy to help and working together towards the same goal. The role will be split between office and hybrid flexible working arrangements.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you'll bring a solid foundation in property and commercial law, along with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to legal issues. You'll have experience with advising on commercial structures, risk allocation and management, property development, and market processes. Experience working on projects, particularly involving leasing, acquisitions, disposals, service agreements and other project agreements, is desirable.

You'll have experience working collaboratively in a team environment and will have begun developing strong stakeholder management skills. You're confident engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders and open to learning how to provide clear, practical advice. With support, you'll contribute to providing legal assistance on complex, high-value property transactions, ideally within residential developments, and will be eager to build a track record of success.

The ideal candidate will be a junior to mid-level lawyer (minimum 3 years PQE) looking to take the next step in their career. You'll have demonstrated experience in providing clear, commercially focused legal advice and be eager to continue developing your expertise. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as you'll be working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders to build trusted, strategic relationships.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional to join a dedicated and highly regarded team and be a key contributor in supporting the delivery of outcomes for the people of NSW.
