Senior Policy Officer
SNSW Grade: 9/10
Employment Type: Temporary upto 30 June 2026, Full-time (35 hrs per week)
Location: Sydney McKell. In office presence required 2 days per week as per DCS directive
Salary range : $126,898 - $152,845 plus 11.5% Super
About the team
The Small Business Advisory Team is a great place to shape and drive some of the NSW Government's key commitments for small business. The team sits within the new Customer Care and Business Bureau in Service NSW, and delivers whole-of-government initiatives and supports legislative reform to help NSW small businesses start, grow and thrive.
We are looking for a Senior Policy Officer who can drive complex work, manage and coordinate the development and implementation of a range of policy and strategic initiatives, including the NSW Charter for Small Business and reforms to the Retail Leases Act 1994.
Your day-to-day
- Research, analyse and review complex policy issues, identifying emerging issues, developing evidence-based options, and recommended solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks
- Provide expert policy advice and information to relevant stakeholders to facilitate the appropriate interpretation and implementation of policies and support Agency and/or Government policy initiatives
- Support Cabinet, Ministerial and Parliamentary processes and engagement, working collaboratively with stakeholders on strategies to ensure approvals are achieved on time to promote Government objectives
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating their engagement in, and contribution to, the identification and development of policy and operational solutions and to inform policy decision-making and program responses
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the development and/or implementation of policies to identify issues and ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
- Prepare correspondence, written reports, publications, and briefs, that are informative and aligned with agency requirements, to respond to Agency and/or Government requests

- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply solutions to policy and operational responses
- Resilience, and energy to thrive in an agile and adaptive environment
- The ability to be able to build and maintain positive and productive relationships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good understanding of how government works and how to get things done using government processes
