Wabubadda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated Female Ranger to join the Jirrbal Ranger team. Our enthusiastic and committed Ranger team will be based in Ravenshoe and work across Jirrbal traditional owner's geographical footprint and Native Title determined areas managed by Wabubadda Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC.
The Role
Ranger’s work across a broad area of the landscape, completing a variety of tasks and gaining further skills and knowledge from other rangers and completing of training courses provided.
Conduct practices in natural resource management areas including pest, fire, weed, and infrastructure management programs including the protection of threatened species, and biosecurity compliance.
Key Duties:
As a member of a team, undertake works in natural and cultural resource management on Jirrbal traditional country.
Under the direction of the Jirrbal Ranger Coordinator’s and/or Jirrbal Senior Ranger to undertake land conservation and on-country management activities, as required; for the sustainability, biodiversity and cultural heritage integrity on Jirrbal traditional country.
Conduct effective practices in the management of feral animals, weeds, fire, species, water quality, habitat restoration, monitoring and mapping of culturally significant sites.
Support Elders and Traditional Owners to conduct management work on traditional land and waterways.
Work effectively with other staff and partners including traditional owners, Elders, partner agencies (government & non-government), commercial operators, education providers, local community groups and public enquiries as required.
Ensure work is done in accordance with WHS regulations specifically in dealing with hazardous chemicals and manual handling.
Ensure equipment is used and maintained at industry standards.
Interact with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Elders to support Traditional Owners to access Traditional land, waterways and caring for country.
Under the direction of the Jirrbal Ranger Coordinator and/or supervisor assist in delivering the Jirrbal Junior Ranger program activities including ranger educational activities with students, children and young people and ensuring safety of all involved.
Perform any other duties as requested by the Jirrbal Ranger Coordinator’s or Jirrbal Ranger Supervisor’s.
Key Responsibilities:
Be punctual, reliable and maintain a neat and tidy appearance.
Maintain respect for Jirrbal Elders, people and traditional country.
Be fit for duty and perform outdoor duties without imposing risks to the health and safety of themselves or others.
Continuously improve qualifications and skills through work practices, training, on the job performance and to widen skills base and range of experience.
This is a designated Aboriginal identified role. It is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be an Aboriginal person:
identify as an Aboriginal Female person, and
be accepted by their community as being an Aboriginal person.

Key Selection Criteria
Understanding of cultural protocols, together with a willingness to work respectfully in accordance with Jirrbal and other Indigenous cultural protocols
Strong interest in land, waterways and rainforest management and Ranger work
Ability and willingness to undertake physical labour, outdoors and in adverse weather conditions, on/around water, as well as handling a variety of plants and animals, power tools, chemicals and the like, within workplace health and safety guidelines
Ability and willingness to follow instructions and work within a team environment.
Demonstrate good communication skills within the workplace.
Essential Requirements
Certificate I or II in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent experience and willingness to progress in obtaining qualification.
QLD Drivers Licence (C Class)
Adequate reading and writing skills and/or keen to improve these skills.
Working with Children Check/Blue Card or able to obtain
Undergo Criminal History Check
Agree to undertake ad-hoc drug and alcohol test to satisfy program’s contractual requirements
