About the role

The City of Greater Dandenong is undertaking a major transformation of its Parks Services Department, and are excited to offer a newly created leadership role that will shape the delivery of sports field, play space, and active recreation asset maintenance across the city. As part of a broader restructure, this is a rare opportunity to join the team at a pivotal moment—bringing fresh energy, ideas and leadership to a team committed to delivering high-quality parks and open space maintenance for our community.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new team from the ground up—managing service contracts, developing maintenance programs, and working collaboratively across Council to improve the safety, quality, and presentation of some of our city's most used public assets. From sportsgrounds, skate parks and synthetic fields to playgrounds and athletics tracks, this role allows you to influence the standard of active spaces that support community connection and participation.

You'll oversee the Sportsgrounds and Park Infrastructure teams and work closely with the Sports and Recreation Unit to align service planning with community expectations and seasonal needs.

About you

You are a skilled and motivated leader with deep expertise in sports turf management and active recreation asset management, and you're energised by the opportunity to build a team and shape a new approach to open space delivery.

You bring proven experience leading teams, managing turf maintenance and parks infrastructure programs, and developing strong relationships across departments and contractors. With excellent communication and problem-solving skills, you're comfortable in a dynamic environment and focused on delivering safe, functional, and high-quality outcomes for the community.

Key requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Sports Turf Management, with extensive experience in turf and active recreation asset maintenance
  • Demonstrated leadership in supervising sports turf teams and delivering high-quality maintenance services
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and innovation skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Proven ability to manage staff performance, lead change, and implement effective team development strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills, with strong digital literacy including MS Office and EDRMS systems
